First Sacrament Preparation
Children’s First Reconciliation and First Communion
Children, usually in Grade 2, can be prepared to receive the Sacraments of Reconciliation and Eucharist for the first time. Preparation for these Sacraments is a stand-alone program that is not part of our regular Religious Education program at St. Paul Parish or in a Catholic school religious education class. Students must have completed Religious Education (in a parish program or in a Catholic school) the year before preparing for these Sacraments, and be attending Religious Education (in a parish program or in a Catholic school), the year of this Sacramental preparation. The preparation consists of classroom instruction, home instruction, and at least one practice session. Parents are required to attend two of the sessions. Sadlier “We Believe and We Celebrate” is our resource.
- Children’s 1st Reconciliation preparation traditionally begins in October, and 1st Reconciliation is celebrated in mid-November.
- Children’s 1st Communion preparation traditionally begins in the Spring, and 1st Communion is celebrated the end of April or early May.
