Eucharistic Ministers, also known as Extraordinary Ministers of Holy Communion, assist the priest and deacon in the distribution of Holy Communion under both species to fellow parishioners at all Masses. Training is provided and ministers can serve at the Mass of their choice, usually once per month. Scheduling is conducted using a shared online calendar.
This ministry requires appropriate dress and demeanor. Volunteers must also have a special reverence for the Consecrated Body and Blood of Christ, and be at least 16 years old. Those volunteering in this ministry must be practicing Catholic and as such regularly attend weekend Masses and Mass on Hold Days of Obligation. They also must have received the Initiation sacraments of Baptism, Eucharist, and Confirmation. If married the volunteer must have been married in the Catholic Church by a priest or deacon. There are no regular meetings for the Eucharistic Ministers, although attendance at the initial training is required, as is attending a yearly reflection and prayer service. This is an adult ministry which requires the ability to navigate the stairs to the altar.
