Preparation for the Sacrament of First Eucharist is a stand alone program that is not part of our regular Religious Education program at St. Paulʼs or a Catholic school religious education class. Sacramental preparation consists of classroom instruction and at least one practice session. Reception of the sacrament is traditionally held at the end of April or early May. Registration is required for First Eucharist preparation class.
There are five catechist volunteer opportunities each year and one administrative volunteer opportunity. The catechists teach in small groups while coordinating the Sacrament of First Eucharist celebration together. The administrative volunteer reviews studentsʼ records and maintains the First Eucharist data base. This short term commitment is a wonderful volunteer opportunity for members who can only commit to a short term project.
This adult ministry does not preclude those with physical limitations. Classes run from midwinter to spring with a varying schedule. All volunteers must be practicing Catholics, and register on Shield the Vulnerable through the Archdiocese of Baltimore.
